1. due to 英国英语中只能引导表语，美国英语中即可做表语也可做状语。
     Our victory was due to the assistance of the star-player.
     我们的胜利归因于主力球员的发挥。
     下列情况仅在美国英语中才出现：
     I came late due to(最好用because of) the traffic jam.
     此句中due to用作状语，仅美语中可见。
     误：Due to certain unforeseen circumstances, we didn’t start yesterday.（仅见于美国英语，此外均被认为是错误的）。
     正：Owing to certain unforeseen circumstances, we didn’t start yesterday.
由于某些未能预见的情况，我们昨天未出发。

2. because of 只能引导状语。
     We must not get discourage because of such a minor setback.
     我们绝对不能因为这样一个小小的挫折就垂头丧气。

3. owing to 即可做状语又可作表语，以状语最常见，它所引导的状语必须是修饰全句的，故必须用逗号与主句隔开，这与because of是不同的。
     They decided to postpone the trip, owing to the change of weather.
由于气候变化他们决定推迟旅程。
     They refused to give up the project merely because of the lack of skilled personnel. 他们不肯因为缺乏技术人才就放弃那工程计划。
     在第一句中owing to 直接影响了主要动词decide，而在第二句中because of 却只影响了次要动词give up而对主要动词refuse无任何影响。且第一句中，owing to可放在句首，而第二句中because of则不能。

4. thanks to也是引导状语，除表示“由于”之外往往带有感谢或讽刺的意思。
     Thanks to your help, much trouble was saved.多亏了你的帮助才省了许多麻烦。China’s national economy was on the brink of total collapse, thanks to the “revolutionary measures” of the Gang of Four.由于四人帮的“革命措施”中国国民经济处于全面崩溃的边缘。
